Vetura Dam

Vetera Dam - Fall 2000

Water for the Colver Power facility is supplied by a reservoir formed by the Vetera Dam, which is owned and operated by the Cambria Township Water Authority (CTWA).  The dam is located approximately three miles from the Colver Power Facility.

The Dam was constructed in 1993, replacing a smaller earthen dam that had provided drinking water to the town of Colver since 1913.  The Colver Power Project assumed responsibility to manage construction and to pay off the bond debt for the dam project in exchange for a water supply for the life of the Power Plant.

Completed in November 1993, the new dam has a capacity of 427 million gallons of water.  It is 51 feet high and 1,021 feet long.  The impoundment area is 73 acres.  It was designed by GAI Consultants, Inc. and constructed by the C. J. Merlo Construction Company.

Two prolonged periods of drought occurring since the start of operations of the Colver Facility have proven the capability of the dam to serve the purpose of providing an adequate water supply to both the community and the power facility.

The CTWA has allowed the Pennsylvania Fish Commission to stock the reservoir and CTWA allows access to the reservoir for public fishing.
