Group Events-- for groups of 8 or more --The Depreciation Lands Museum offers a variety of programs designed for School groups, Scouts, AARP groups, families and the general public. All of the programs
must be booked in advance.
Living in History This program gives children the opportunity to live for a few hours as settlers’ children, in the late 1700’s. Beginning with a brief history of the Depreciation Lands, and how they got their unusual name, the children then take a tour of our settlers’ village before going “home” to the log house. They will do everyday chores, such as gathering firewood and kindling, sweeping and gathering eggs. They will shell and grind corn for cornbread, a staple food for the settlers. After eating a pioneer snack, they will return to the Covenanter Building and make a toy from the empty corncobs, which is theirs to keep. Program lasts 2 hours, and is suitable for school aged children. $10/person, including chaperones. Cabin Days The 2nd Saturday of every month, 9am - 1pm, (beginning in September) This is a unique opportunity for older children, aged 8 through 15, and their parents, or other significant adult, to share the experience of family life in a log cabin, as it was in the early 1800's, when the Depreciation Lands were first being settled. You will prepare and eat lunch, cooked in the kitchen hearth. While the lunch cooks, you and your parent will learn a typical craft, such as weaving, knitting, tatting,or embroidery. Each Saturday will be a complete class with a different craft. The cost of $20 per person includes the meal and all craft supplies. In addition to the above Programs, the Museum can offer a special program designed for your group: SCHOOL PROGRAMS – Custom School programs are designed for the specific grade level of the group and present the history of the Depreciation Lands. Coordination between the
teacher/teachers and the museum can make a visit to the museum an integral part of the curriculum.
BOY SCOUT/GIRL SCOUT – The Depreciation Lands Museum offers a number of programs designed to meet requirements of various badges.
PARTIES – We can help you plan an 18th Century Birthday party, sure to please your special person.
COMMUNITY GROUPS AND FAMILIES can schedule a private tour or an event which may include a catered Lunch or Tea. A tour lead by a costumed interpreter includes a visit
to all the buildings in our village. A Luncheon or Tea includes the tour, a short lecture/demonstration of a selected topic, and a catered Lunch or Tea.
A tour is a wonderful introduction to the museum for an AARP group, church group, and as a special event for families or a group of friends.
