Liability Coverage
Liability coverage provides protection for
occurrences from which an insured becomes legally obligated as a result of the
ownership, maintenance or use of an auto resulting in:
- Bodily Injury and/or
- Injury or destruction of property, including
damage for loss it its use.
A minimum liability limit of $15,000/$30,000/$5,000 is mandatory in
Pennsylvania.
Tort Options
Pennsylvania law requires that you
select a tort option, either Full or Limited Tort.
- Limited Tort - By choosing this option you
limit your ability to sue for pain and suffering except in cases where you
have been seriously injured in an auto accident. With this option though,
you still retain the right to sue for pain and suffering in the following
situation if you:
1. Sustain death
2. Impairment of bodily function
3. Disfigurement
4. Are injured by an uninsured motorists
5. Are injured by an out of state registered vehicle
6. Are injured by a drunk driver who causes the accident.
Regardless of your tort option, you are never barred from suing for unpaid
medical bills or loss of income.
By selecting this option, your insurance company is required by law to
reduce your auto insurance premium by at least 22%.
- Full Tort - By choosing this option, you
retain the right to sue for pain and suffering in any automobile accident.
Uninsured Motorists
- Uninsured Motorists coverage protects an insured and his family if they
are injured by a negligent driver who fails to have any insurance coverage. This
coverage applies only to bodily injury claims and does not cover damage to an
insured's automobile.
Underinsured Motorists - Underinsured
Motorists coverage protects an insured and his family if they are injured by a negligent
driver who does not have enough bodily injury liability insurance to cover an
insured's claims.
Comprehensive - Comprehensive
coverage or Other than Collision coverage covers your auto for the following
types of losses:
Fire,
Theft,
Vandalism,
Glass
Breakage, and
Collision
with an animal.
Payment under this coverage is subject to the deductible that you have chosen.
Collision -
This coverage pays for damage to your vehicle which is caused by a collision.
Payment is subject to the deductible amount which you have chosen.
Towing & Labor - This coverage
pays, up to the limit stated in your policy, for towing and labor costs.
Rental Reimbursement
- This coverage pay for the cost to rent a vehicle, up to the limit stated
in your policy, if your automobile is unable to be used due to a covered peril,
i.e. theft, collision.
