The Anteater lives in tropical savannas and forests in Central and South America.
The average anteater weighs 100 pounds, attains a length of seven feet from nose to tail, possesses a 24-inch tongue, and lives to be 25 years old.
The Anteater is a mammal of three genera
of the order Edentata.
The Great Anteater or ant bear (Myrmecophaga), has an elongated snout, a body about 4 ft long, with course hair and a long, wide tail. It eats up to 30,000 ants, termites and other insects each day.
The arboreal collared Anteater (Tamandua) is less than half the size of the great anteater.
The arboreal two-toed Anteater (Cyclopes) is about the size of a squirrel.
Many people worship Anteaters, this is a typical ceremony.
