This poll was inspired by Mike Dahmus, who runs the football poll.
In fact, the format is exactly the same as the football poll except
for some minor variations.

This the 2nd year of the contest. This year's defending champion
is Steve Casburn, who won the first ever poll last year. Here
were last year's top10 finishers:

*-won tiebreaker

The goal, of course, is to accumulate the most points by the end of
the tournament at RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The contest is scored the same as Dahmus's poll (2 pts for
conference games, 1 point for non-conference games, etc etc etc)

The contest has 4 1/2 stages to it. The first 3 stages are worth
points. The last 1 1/2 stages are tiebreakers, which, we hope, will
break any and all ties. Should any ties remain at the end of the Dome's
tourney, we will attempt to get June Corteau to randomly draw the winner.

Here's the rules and here how's it works.

Stage 1 -- Pick the winner of each contest. The visiting team will be
listed first while the home team will be listed second.
Underneath the "WINNER" column, write in the team you think
           will win.

EXCEPTIONS: In certain games (tournaments), there will be no home
team (example: Purdue vs. Florida at Tennessee). Those games will list
the Big Ten team first, the opponent second, with the location in
(parentheses) next to the opponent. You will still pick the winner
of those two teams. This is just a reminder that the Big Ten team's
opponent is not the home team.

EXCEPTIONS (2): In certain games (tournaments), the matchup has not been
determined yet (example: in a 4-team tournament, the two winners meet
the next night while the two losers meet the next night). Therefore,
you will see certain games where you are instructed to pick the Big Ten
team to WIN or LOSE underneath the WINNER column. You need not pick
the game involving non-Big Ten teams. Just predict whether or not the
Big Ten team will win or lose next to the arrow.

Note: If possible, you are given the first-round matchups to help
you out (we researched the tournaments as best as we could). If you
know the first-round matchups, more power to you (it'll be easier for
you to make a pick). DO NOT pick an if/then scenario (Example: Penn
State vs. Old Dominion or Quinnipiac -- do not write "I pick Penn State to
beat Quinnipiac if its Quinnipiac or else I pick Old Dominion to beat
Penn State if its Old Dominion. Simply predict Penn State to WIN or LOSE
in round 2, based on who you first think will win or lose between Old
Dominion and Quinnipiac and who will win or lose between Penn State and
 Louisville).

EXCEPTIONS (3) -- Northwestern is playing a possible 4-games in the
preseason N.I.T. In the first game, pick Northwestern or Southern
Illinois. If you pick Southern Illinois, do not pick any further. If
you pick Northwestern, then pick Northwestern to WIN or LOSE in the next
round. Keep picking Northwestern to WIN or LOSE until you pick them to
LOSE or until the tournament is complete. If you pick Northwestern to
WIN/LOSE and the actual game is not played, you will not be penalized.
However, if you pick Northwestern to LOSE and they win (thus going to
the next round), your LOSE pick will be bumped down to the next round.
This will ensure that everyone has a pick for each game that Northwestern
plays in. Once you pick Northwestern to LOSE, stop picking the rest of
the games and move down to the 11/15 games and start picking from there.

EXCEPTIONS (4) -- Sometimes games are moved to a different date and/or
the games are not played (because I might have an incorrect game listed).
If the game listed ends up being played on a different date than the one
I have, then that game *will* count in the contest. If that game listed
ends up not being played at all, then that game will *not* count in the
 contest.

NOTE -- Any games not picked will be treated the same as incorrect picks.

Round 2 -- How many can you tip in? (5 points per team)

Predict the order of finish for the Big Ten during the regular season.
Points will be scored based on how close you are to predicting the
actual position of a team. Example: if you pick Northwestern to
finish 5th and they actually finish 4th, you are off by -1 (which gives
you 4 points). If you pick Purdue to finish 5th and they finish 7th, you
are off by -2 (which gives you 3 points). An 11-point bonus will be given
to anyone who picks all 11 teams correctly. (If 2 or more teams are tied
for xxth place at the end of the regular season, the seeding for the Big
Ten Tournament will determine who finished higher/lower)

Use each team only once -- Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State,
Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin

Round 3 -- March Madness tip ins (5 points per team)

It works the same as round 2, only predict the order of finish for
the Big Ten Tournament. For Contest purposes, to break ties, the
lowest seeded team automatically assumes the lowest finish if they
lose. Example (based on last year's results) for round 1: Michigan,
Penn State, and Wisconsin all lost in round 1. However, because Michigan
was seeded 9th, they will finish 11th. Because Penn State was seeded
7th, they will finish 10th. Because Wisconsin was seeded 6th, they
will finish 9th. Teams will be re-seeded after each round and the lowest
seed that loses each round will be the first team out for that round
(Example: the lowest seeded team that loses in the semifinals will
be placed #4, the lowest seeded team that loses in the quarterfinals
will be placed #8).

Use each team only once -- Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State,
Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin
